2 youth hit with pellets during Shopian clashes, 1 with eye injury referred to Srinagar


Srinagar: Two youths have suffered pellets injuries during clashes with government forces near Shopian encounter site on Friday.

Doctors at Harmain primary health centre told Kashmir Reader that two youth hit with pellets were brought to the hospital.

They said that one of the two injured youths had received a critical pellet injury in his eye and was referred to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for treatment while the other youth was treated at the PHC.

A gunfight raged in Gadapora village of the district afte government forces laid siege to the village following inputs about presence of militants.

Police sources said that two militants have been killed in gunfight so far while army in a statement earlier said that one militant body was recovered. The identification of the slain is being ascertained.

Intense clashes erupted near the encounter site after protesters attempted to disrupt the anti-militancy operation. The forces fired teargas shells and pellets to disperse the protesting youth.

Internet services have already been suspended in the district as a “precautionary measure”.
