Srinagar, Under its Civic Action Programme, the 29th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) stationed at Rawalpora, Srinagar distributed sports kits among students of three schools of Rawalpora.
The function was presided over by Dr Sanjay Kumar, DIG CRPF (South). Shri Vijay Kumar Singh, Commandant 29 Bn CRPF was also.
Sports items like volley balls, volley ball nets, badminton rackets and nets, carom boards, track suits and skipping ropes among others were distributed among students of Government Girls School Rawalpora, Al Ghazali Secondary School Chanapora and Merline High School Rawalpora at the function.
Stating that the programme was organised to strengthen the bond between security forces and people of J&K, Dr Kumar emphasised the need for sports as an essential component of education. He said that children from villages and small towns lag behind in sports because of shortage of resources and the government has launched various programmes to address this issue.
Describing CRPF’s initiatives as a small step towards bridging gaps, Dr Kumar said that in future also the organisation would leave no stone unturned to contribute towards education of children, especially girls, in whatever way possible.
The chairman Jammu and Kashmir Youth Development Forum Dr Bilal Ahmad Mir appreciated the efforts of the CRPF and thanked DIG Dr Sanjay Kumar and CO Vijay Kumar Singh for this gesture. Among others, Deputy Commandant , and prominent people of the area were present on the occasion.
