3 ‘militant attacks’ in 24 hours in Tral


Srinagar, Unidentified gunmen killed a woman and injured another in Seer village of Tral area in Pulwama district on Sunday, even as a CRPF man was injured when suspected militants hurled a grenade towards the residence of a National Conference leader in the township. In another attack in Tral, the house of a police officer was ransacked last night.

An official said that Yasmeena, daughter of GhulamRasoolBhat of Khanmoh Srinagar, was killed and Ruby Jan, wife of Muhammad ShafiWagay of Seer injured when they were talking inside a house and a few masked gunmen entered inside and fired upon them.

Ruby was shifted to sub-district hospital Tral in a critical condition but was instantly referred to Srinagar for specialised treatment.

Immediately after the attack, government forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the area to nab the assailants.

Confirming the attack, superintendent of police Awantipora, Muhammad Zahid Malik claimed that militant outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad was behind the attack.
