Aerial Firing, Tear Gas Shelling on Shalimar Youth’s Funeral


Srinagar, Forces fired scores of shells and resorted to aerial firing as the slain Shalimar youth was being taken to be laid to rest in Martyrs Graveyard Eidgah in summer capital on Saturday morning.

Qaiser Hameed Sofi (16), son of Ab Hameed Sofi, resident of Shalimar went missing on October 27, 2016 and he was found next lying unconscious in a drain. He was rushed to SKIMS Soura where he was in coma for some days and lost battle of his life around 10 PM on Friday night.

Qaiser’s body was taken to his ancestral home at Gander Pora Safakadal.

“Hundreds of men in uniform reached the area this morning as people made a beeline to attend funeral prayers of the deceased,” eye witnesses said.

They added, “the forces resorted to unprovoked aerial firing and later fired scores of tear gas shells to scare people.”

The locals asserted, “there was no stone pelting at all. Only Azaadi songs are being played across the area.” “The forces damaged window panes and other private property as tear gas shells landed inside residential house premises.”

A doctor at SKIMS Soura said that due to cardio respiratory arrest, Qaiser lost battle of his life.
