Srinagar, Jun 14: Block Development Officer Sogam on Tuesday suspended two clerks for allegedly taking bribes from the beneficiaries against the drafting of bills.
Reports reaching Kashmir Glory said that the Block Development Office Sogam had last week received an amount of two crore and twenty-lac rupees for disbursement to the contractors involved with various development works from the past one year.
In the meantime beneficiaries had made complaints to the concerned BDO that soon after realization of funds, the clerical staff apparently in a bid to make their share abandoned the office.
Talking to Kashmir Glory a group of beneficiaries said that; “The clerical staff were working at independent locations and demanded bribes against the realization of bills. The bills of many beneficiaries have been disbursed for paying a certain amount of money”, they added.
Taking cognizance of the complaints, BDO Sogam Ghulam Mohuddin made surprise visits to the places disclosed by the beneficiaries. During the visits two clerks identified as Habibullah and Ghulam Hassan were caught red-handed.
The BDO ordered for the suspension of both the clerks with immediate effect.
Meanwhile the BDO has assured the beneficiaries that things would be put in place to expedite the disbursement process.
