Cabinet to clear promotion of IPS officers today


jAMMU, The cabinet will Thursday approve the promotion of 1993 and 1994 batch Indian Police Service officers of the J&K cadre as additional director generals of police, a source told Greater Kashmir on Wednesday.
As already reported by this newspaper, the chief secretary-led screening committee had cleared the names of SJM Gillani (director, vigilance, J&K), Abdul Ghani Mir (IGP, CID), Muhammad Sulaiman Salaria (director, SKPA), Alok Puri (IGP, Crime Branch), Muneer Ahmad Khan (IGP, Kashmir range) and Deepak Kumar (on deputation with the heavy engineering corporation limited, Ranchi), as ADGPs.This newspaper had first reported on October 23 that the government was considering the promotion of IG-level officers to the rank of ADGP.
The source said that the cabinet would also approve promotion of several IAS and KAS officers.
It would also give its nod to creation of a full-fledged food safety commissioner, he said.
