Div Com Kashmir interacts with Corporators, urges them to initiate public outreach programme


SRINAGAR: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan interacted with Corporators (Councillors) of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) here today and urged them to start public outreach programme on immediate basis.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Shahid Iqbal, Additional Commissioner Kashmir, Commissioner SMC, elected Coporators of SMC and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.

Div Com directed Commissioner SMC to devise an effective redressal mechanism so that the habitants of capital city do not face any inconvenience in their respective wards. He directed for furnishing the monthly report to the Divisional Commissioner’s Office for further necessary action.

Maintaining that people have high hopes from the elected representatives and it is desired that they (Corporators) must visit their wards on daily basis and inspect the essential services, like supply of water & electricity, defunct drains, sanitation measures, dog menace, proper functioning of ration Ghats & schools, attendance of government employees and other basic amenities in their designated areas, ” he said.

Corporators were urged to compile a weekly report of their wards and bringing the same to the notice of Ward Officer, Commissioner SMC and Deputy Commissioner Srinagar for further action at their level.

On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar also urged the Corporators to be a regular part of grassroots level development and make their best efforts to mitigate the problems of their areas. He asked the Corporators to devise a comprehensive report of developmental works of their respective wards and submitting the same to the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar for further necessary action.

It was given out that 35 terminals were created in the DC office Srinagar for the issuance of Birth and Death certificates. All SMC Corporators were asked to be in touch with these terminals for the benefit of public.
