Encounter rages in Lolab sector, 2 militants killed

Srinagar, April 21: Two militants were killed in an ongoing encounter at Lolab sector in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday morning.

A senior police officer told that army’s 28 RR cordoned off the forest area near Gujjarpati (B) hamlet of Putshahi area in the frontier district following specific information about the presence of some militants.

The forces, as such, intensified the cordon-and-search operation and fired several warning shots towards the suspected spot, he said, adding that the militants believed to be two to three in number hiding in the area opened fire, triggering off an encounter.

As the combing operation was intensified, the militants hiding in the area opened fire upon the army, he said, adding that the fire was retaliated ensuing a gun battle.

“During the encounter two militants have been killed he said, while adding that the searches in the area is still going on.
