Encounter rages in north Kashmir’s Kupwara

Srinagar, April 21: A gunfight broke out between government forces and a group of militants at Putshahi area of Lolab in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday early morning.

Reports reaching Kashmir Glory said that army’s 28 RR cordoned off the forest area near Gujjarpati (B) hamlet of Putshahi area in the frontier district following specific information about the presence of some militants.

The forces, as such, intensified the cordon-and-search operation and fired several warning shots towards the suspected spot, reports said, adding that the militants believed to be two to three in number hiding in the area opened fire, triggering off an encounter.

Independent reports have been suggesting that a militant has been killed but no official could be contacted as of now to check the veracity of the reports.

When reports last came in, the gunfight was going on in the area.
