Srinagar, April 9: A 39-year-old man was mauled to death by a leopard in Zirhama area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday evening.
“The leopard appeared at Guggarpati hamlet in Zirhama today evening and attacked the man identified as Rashid Badana (39) outside his house, ” locals told Kashmir Glory.
In the meantime, the leopard dragged him several 100 meters away from the spot, he said, adding that the cries of the Badana caught the attention of some people who chased the leopard to save the man from his clutches.
“However, they failed to rescue him. The locals who after reaching on the spot found him in a pool of blood”, they said, adding that the leopard fled towards the forest area nearby the village.
The locals of the area shifted the injured man to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, they said.
“Badana is survived by five children and wife”.
Meanwhile, the residents of the area told Kashmir Glory that wild animals had created a reign of terror in the area. “The wild animals are also on prowl at the adjoining villages wherein the people fear to venture out of their homes during the dusk, ” the inhabitants of these areas said.
