Srinagar, Following the reports of fish washing up ashore along the banks of Jhelum river, the Srinagar district administration on Sunday said that most of the fish are not dead suggesting ‘prima facie’ the absence of a poisonous substance.
Appealing public not to panic, the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, in a statement, said that they taken water samples as well as the samples of fish.
“We have taken water samples as well as the samples of fish. Most of the fish washed up ashore are not dead suggesting that the oxygen content of the river water is low. Technical team visited various spots & suggest further tests which will be done immediately,” he said.
Requesting the public not to panic, he said: “The administration is seized of the matter and working hard to ensure that no untoward incidents occur.”
