Baramulla, In a first, the school education department organised one-day Khizan Gulmarg 2017- golf festival for school children which was inaugurated by education minister Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari here on Saturday.
“The aim to organise golf festival for students is to expose them to this game which other wise was considered as game of and for elites,” Bukhari said in his address to students.
He said the department has started training five students from different schools in learning golfing skills. “Be it government or private school student, anyone who is interested will be trained as we are here to facilitate it,” he said.
The minister extended his gratitude to sponsors including Private School Association Kashmir (PSAK), Hoteliers Club Gulmarg, proprietors Hotel Pine, Hotel Vintage, Hotel Rosewood, Cable car Corporation Gulmarg and Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA)
“We had students from Sainik school Mansbal and students from other local schools of Gulmarg and those who couldn’t participate today will be asked by the department to participate in future,” he said.
According to education minister, the school education department will also organise skiing course for school children at Gulmarg during winter season.
Stating that Gulmarg was peaceful place, Bukhari made an appeal to the tourists to visit Gulmarg and enjoy winter season at world’s famous ski resort.
“I appeal all to come here and spend winter here,” Bukhari said.
The minister also informed that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has also approved a proposal that all MLAs will contribute 1.5 percent of their Constituency Development Fund for educational tour of students.
“The decision was taken in last board meeting held in Baramulla and CM has approved it as well,” the education minister said.
Earlier speaking at the occasion, secretary school education Farooq Ahmad Shah said the department is fully concentrating to improve the education sector in the state.
