Hizb militant laid to rest amid pro-freedom slogans in South Kashmir

Srinagar, April 6: Thousands of people attended the funeral of slain Hizbul Mujahideen militant in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, witnesses told GNS on Wednesday.

In a gunbattle at Dadoora village, the militant identified as Bilal Bhat of Karimabad was killed in an encounter with police and army on Tuesday evening. The other militant reportedly managed to escape from the spot soon after the encounter raged in the area.

DSC_0020Witnesses told GNS that people in huge numbers converged at the house of Bilal  Bhat  when his body arrived in his native village. While men were seen chanting pro-freedom slogans, the women folk were beating their chests to mourn Bhat’s death.

DSC_0023Meanwhile, witnesses said that scores of people, mostly boys clashed with the CRPF troopers and the police at Kareemabad and few other parts adjacent to it, after offering his congregational prayers of the slain militant.

Chanting pro-freedom, pro-militants and anti-India slogans, the protesters pelted heavily the government forces with rocks, witnesses said.

DSC_0003The militant was finally buried at martyrs graveyard in Karemabad.

Meanwhile, spontaneous shutdown is being observed in parts of Pulwama district following the death of Billal Bhat.
