Srinagar, In the poll battle between arch rivals National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party, Tariq Hameed Karra failed to make an impact as the PDP, whom he had divorced, secured lead in his home turf Batmaloo. While NC’s Farooq Abdullah secured 2119 votes from Batmaloo, PDP candidate Nazir Khan polled 2362 votes, securing a lead of 243 votes. Both Congress, which Karra joined recently, and National Conference who fought the Srinagar parliamentary by polls jointly had expected Karra to garner support for Abdullah.
During the election campaigning, Karra had addressed a joint workers’ rally of NC and PDP at the former’s headquarter here. Later, both Abdullah and his son and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had visited Karra at his Sonwar home in connection with the elections.
But the poll results today showed that the former finance minister and the founding member of the PDP has failed to make any impact after his resignation from Parliament.
