Kanpur: 14 coaches of the Indore-Patna Express derailed near Pukhrayan in Kanpur dehat district in the wee hours on Sunday.
The mishap took place at around 3 AM near Pukhrayan, about 100 kms from here, when the passengers were fast asleep.
Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu has ordered a probe into the train tragedy.
Railways have videographed the entire Kanpur-Jhansi track to ascertain the reasons for the derailment of the Indore-Patna Express.
General Manager of North-Central Railway Arun Saxena told reporters that investigation will be conducted by the Commissioner of Railway Safety.
Asked if someone could have tampered with the tracks, he said the Commissioner of Railway Safety, would be able to provide an answer to it.
“Anyone with further evidence or statements can approach the Commissioner to record his statement,” he said, as per PTI.
“We did videography of the whole track for scrutiny,” he added.
President Pranab Mukherjee condoles loss of lives on account of derailment of Indore-Patna Express.
In a message to Shri Ram Naik, the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, the President said, “I am sad to learn about the accident in which many have lost their lives and a number of persons are injured, when Indore-Patna Express ran off the tracks near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.”
