Department Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) on Wednesday flagged off 50 players who will be participating in the Sqay martial arts and rope skipping championships organized under the aegis of School Games Federation Of India at Goa and Gujrat.
In a statement issued, Director DYSS, Shiekh Fayaz said that the department is all set to host the National Championship in football in which teams from various states of the country are expected to participate.
Director DYSS said that Department is committed to boost sports talent of school children of the state and organizing national level championship in a game like football will help us to achieve the desired goal of encouraging the mass participation of young school children in the games and sports.
He further said that this Kashmir has produced football stars like Abdul Majeed Kakroo, Muhammad Shafi Nari in past and current favorites like Mehraj ud Din Wadoo and Ashfaq Ahmed.
He hoped that conducting a national level championship in football will help State to preserve legacy and will certainly boost the morale of those young football players of the state who want to showcase their talent on a bigger platform.
Fayaz said, “The championship will be organized under the aegis of School Games Federation Of India and will be held in Under19 boys category.”
He added, “The sports extravaganza will be held from December 6 and matches of the tournament will be played on different grounds of the Jammu city.”
Minister of State for Youth Services and Sports, Sunil Kumar Sharma was chief guest on the occasion.
He said that the time has come when parents should encourage their wards for taking part in the game of their interest. He added that the clear guidelines have been given to the concerned officials that the sports talent of the children of this state should be tapped and encouraged in such a way that it achieves laurels for all of us.
