Journalists stage protest in Kupwara

Srinagar, April 16: Scores of journalists working with local and national media houses today boycotted Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and staged a protest at Kupwara after they were not given passage to the meeting between CM and families of slain civilians.
The scribes told GNS that as the meeting between the CM and slain persons’ families started at TRC Kupwara today, the concerned authorities disallowed them to cover it and gave access to a particular national news channel.
Angered at the biased approach of authorities, the journalists staged a protest sit-in outside the TRC and raised slogans against this biased approach. Later when CM Mehbooba left the venue, she invited media persons for an interaction and sent RDD Minister Abdul Haq Khan but the latter refused and boycotted the CM.
Despite repeated pleas, the RDD minister failed to pacify the journalists and they continued their protest. The journalists later said that they have been subjected to restrictions and thrashing from past five days in Kupwara district and expressed anguish over the approach of authorities.
