JuD holds rallies against defence minister

LAHORE: Jamaatud Dawa on Tuesday held a country-wide protest against Defence Minister Khwaja Muhammad Asif who had claimed that JuD chief Hafiz Saeed posed a danger to the Pakistani society.

According to the JuD claim, the rallies were taken out in Lahore, Islamabad, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Multan, Karachi, Hyderabad, Quetta, Peshawar, Muzafarabad, Kotli and Rawlakot. The protesters, holding placard, condemned the assertions of the defence minister and called for his resignation.

The biggest rally was taken out in Lahore, where other leaders of the Difa-i-Pakistan Council also addressed. The speakers were of the opinion that Hafiz Saeed was a protector of the ideology and integrity of Pakistan, “whereas the defence minister is not.

He belongs to a party that pleads for friendship with India at the cost of Kashmiri brethren.”

They said Hafiz Saeed neither had violent agenda for Pakistan nor for any neighbouring country. He had only been defending the Kashmir Liberation Movement.

The speakers also asked the defence minister to attend the Lahore High Court, where the party had moved a petition against the arrest of the JuD chief.

He should bring whatever evidence he has against the JuD chief to the court and let the court decide.

They said Pakistani society was threatened by the Indian agents like Kulbushan Yadev, and not Hafiz Saeed. They said the JuD always condemned terrorism and the party was mostly involved in charity work in the country.

They said the government unleashed the entire ministerial team, which had been instigating people against the party. The defence minister’s statement harmed the Kashmir cause.
