KU students protest against beating of Kashmiris at NIT

Srinagar| Apr 02 : The students of Kashmir University Saturday took out a solidarity march for the Kashmiri students of National Institute of Technology (NIT) who were allegedly thrashed by outside students on Friday.
The outside students had allegedly assaulted the Kashmiri students for celebrating India’s defeat in the semi-final of the ongoing ICC World T20 in Mumbai, the other day.
The KU students assembled in the campus Saturday morning to express solidarity with local students of NIT. They condemned the “beating and thrashing” of the Kashmiri students by non-local students.
“They outside students don’t have a right to force Kashmiri students to mourn India’s cricketing loss. The culprits should be taken to task by the college administration,” said a group of students. The NIT was shut down yesterday till further orders in the wake of clashes between local and Indian students over India’s defeat. A local student said that the non-local students were irked by the celebrations witnessed in Kashmir following India’s defeat. (PTK)
