Srinagar, April 9 (GNS): Pro-independence Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Yasin Malik and Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Saturday called for a Valley-wide shutdown on April 12 against attacks on Kashmiri students in outside states and also against the desecration of Kareemabad martyrs’ graveyard.
Addressing a press conference here in Abi Guzar, the JKLF chief said that “NIT drama” is being staged “only to divert attention from attacks on Kashmiri students in Indian states. “ Kashmiri students are being beaten, harassed and intimidated in Indian states and no one is paying heed to their miseries. Instead a drama is being staged at NIT to hide these atrocities and divert attention from it,” he said.
Strongly condemning the ongoing onslaught against Kashmiri students across India, the JKLF chief said that no day passes when Kashmiri students are not being beaten, harassed, intimidated and bullied in India and this phenomenon has taken a very ugly color now. “Students who are busy in their studies and are trying to make their futures are being made scapegoat for pity political interests,” he said.
While giving details, he said Kashmiri students are being harassed throughout India, Yasin Malik said that from Delhi to Meewar and Jodhpur to Noida the intimidation of Kashmir students is on rise and “hooligans backed by the Indian state are busy playing with the careers of these Kashmiri students”.
Malik according to GNS said that Kashmir students are being beaten, jailed, tortured, humiliated and harassed in Indian but Indian media pretends to know nothing about it and instead this “biased media is 24/7 reporting false propaganda on NIT Srinagar and this is done to hide atrocities and oppression unleashed against Kashmiri students in Indian states”.
Malik said that Kashmiris have never interfered in educational institutions and for us education should never be politicized but the way Indian political parties and media have launched an assault on Kashmiris and are communalizing atmosphere in the name of NIT can only be “termed as mental and moral bankruptcy of these people”.
“On one side Kashmiris are being oppressed and on the other side some people are coming to invade Kashmir with their flags. He said that Kashmiris have seen these gimmicks of flag hoisting in past too,” he said.
Condemning the desecration of martyrs’ graveyard Kareemabad, he said: “Such is the limit of moral bankruptcy of Indian rulers, their Kashmiri stooges and forces that Indian forces have started desecrating graves and graveyards now. Kareemabad Pulwama martyrs graveyard desecration is a glaring example of this insane attitude.”
He alleged that small kids and youth are being slapped with PSA and who ever completes his PSA period is being slapped with another PSA immediately. “These oppressive measures, reign of terror against Kashmiris in Jammu Kashmir and harassment of Kashmiri students studying in Indian states is not acceptable and Kashmiris will observe a complete shutdown on Tuesday 12th April 2016 against growing attacks on Kashmiri students,” he said.
He said that JKLF will also stage a protest sit-in at Lal Chowk on 11th April 2016 “which a collective voice will be raised against attacks on Kashmiris in Indian sates and other oppressive measures”.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat Chairman, Syed Ali Geelani also called for a complete Kashmir shutdown onTuesday April 12 against the attacks on Kashmiri students and vandalization of martyrs’ graveyard at Kareemabad Pulwama.
Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has called for strike on April 12 against the attacks on Kashmiri students in various parts of India.
“After a mere NIT Srinagar incident and the way Indian media continuously projecting the said issue made life of our students and business community like hell .Indian media is literally waging war against the people within and outside Kashmir and warn such incidents if not stopped on immediate basis it will have serious consequences,” he said in a statement issued here.
He said after the JNU issue Kashmiri students studying in outside states have been targeted and as per reports many Kashmiri students in Jodhpur, Hyderabad and Jammu beaten to pulp by fanatic mindset people whom have BJP backing and they received serious injuries.
“They are facing tremendous hardships within our outside the campus since then in particular,” he said and expressed “shock and anguish over the ransacking and vandalizing of martyrs graveyard”.
“The vandalization of martyrs’ graveyard by the Indian army shows the true face of occupational forces and is an evidence of their psychological imbalance. India and its occupational forces want to erase every symbol of martyrs and such a desecration of the martyrs grave yard perhaps is a grave issue and inhuman act and such tactics will not deter us,” he added.
