Srinagar, National Conference on Wednesday lashed out at Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for her glaring insensitivity shown by her unacceptable remarks about innocent 12-year-old Junaid Akhoon of Saidpora, Eidgah who was shot dead with pellets outside his home on the eighth of October.
Former Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and MLA Eidgah Mubarak Gul said the Chief Minister had rubbed salt into the wounds of the victim’s family and said he “stood in solidarity with them in their quest for justice for young Junaid”.
“The family of Junaid shouldn’t have felt the need to protest for justice after their inconsolable loss and the Chief Minister should have fulfilled her responsibilities in at least delivering justice to the bereaved family while she failed to protect the life of their young son. This is extremely unfortunate and tragic and my heart goes out to Junaid’s family. I will stand with them till they get justice. The Chief Minister rather than being apologetic and ashamed is out to distort the truth and defame the young victim,” Mubarak Gul said in a statement issued from Party Headquarters in Srinagar this evening.
Mubarak Gul also expressed serious concern over an arson incident at a Government School in Eidgah and said, “the Government should ensure public education infrastructure is safeguarded and protected at all costs. It is the responsibility of the Government to protect our schools and ensure the culprits are apprehended at all costs. Every school is an asset of the nation and any attack on the schools is an attack on the future of our children.”
He expressed concern over the spate of arrests and raids being carried out and said an indiscriminate wave of arrests was further alienating the youth of Kashmir and would have serious implications on the future of the State.
“The Government hasn’t learnt its lessons and is out to wage a war against the youth. They should have been reconciliatory and compassionate and are rather being confrontation and vengeful – which is extremely unfortunate,” Mubarak Gul added.
