Militant killed in pre-dawn shootout in south Kashmir’s Shopian village


Srinagar: A militant was killed in a brief pre-dawn shootout with government forces in Amishpora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Reports said that Army’s 23 Para and Jammu and Kashmir Police’s SOG launched a cordon around an orchard in the village following inputs about the presence of militants in the orchard.

Police sources said that as the cordon was tightened around the orchard, the hiding militants fired upon the forces who retaliated triggering a brief gunfight.

They said that a militant wad killed in the exchange of fire whose identity is being ascertained.
