New Delhi using NIA to suppress Kashmiris: Joint leadership

Srinagar, Joint separatist leadership comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik today said that pro-freedom leaders were being implicated in false cases.

In a statement, the joint leadership condemned the extension of judicial remand of Altaf Ahmad Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Shahid-ul-Islam, Pir Saifullah, Raja Mehrajuddin Kalwal, Nayeem Khan, Farooq Ahamd Dar and businessman Zahoor Ahmad Watali who are under custody of National Investigation Agency.

“This is sheer political vengeance. However, such tactics cannot break their will,” they said.

The leadership expressed concern over deteriorating health of Shabir Ahmad Shah. “We also condemn the inhuman attitude with the arrested leaders by the jail authorities,” they said.

“NIA has been tasked with the sole objective of defaming Kashmiris. Summoning of all sections of Kashmiri society including lawyers, businessmen, journalists, students, scholars for questioning to Delhi clearly shows that how they are subjected to political vengeance to put the basic issue under carpet,” the leaders said.“Instead of using NIA as a weapon, New Delhi should accept the ground realities and respect the aspirations of Kashmiris. This would not only pave way for Kashmir resolution but will be in the larger interests of people of India,” Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik said.
