Kupwara / Shopian, May 16: Two separate encounters broke out between government forces and militants on Monday night in Kupwara and Shopian districts of Kashmir Valley.

A senior police official told Kashmir Glory that  army soldiers from 41 Rashtriya Rifles and 16 Garhwal manning the forest area of Zunreshi along the Line of Control (LoC) noticed some suspicious movement and tried to intercept them at around 11:40 pm. However, the militants after being challenged opened fire triggering off an encounter between the two sides.

The fierce gunfight was going on when reports last came in.

Meanwhile, another encounter broke out at Pehlipora village of Shopian late this night when army’s 44 RR and SOG acting on a tip off, carried out searches in the area. The forces also fired some fire shots towards the suspected area, the militants reportedly opened fire resulted into an encounter.
