Locals say over 60% school transport outdated in Kupwara, urge authorities to intervene
Srinagar, April 7 (GNS): Eight children were injured while others had a narrow escape after an overloaded Video-Coach vehicle of a school in Lolab area of Kupwara district turtle.
Parents of the children told news agency GNS that the vehicle (JK02K-4717) of Sepals Convent School Wavoora in Lolab turned turtle when it was supposed to drop students at their respective destinations after classes were over.
“With 60 students on board, the Vehicle turned turtle near Lalpora and hit polar trees, resulting in injuries to eight children. Fortunately, the trees were there otherwise they would have fell into the gorge,” the parents said. The injured students were to nearby hospital for treatment.
The parents alleged that the school management doesn’t care about the safety of their children and despite having no capacity boards students like cattle in the vehicles. “Also, the vehicle which met the accident is without any documents,” they added.
The locals alleged the ARTO- Kupwara is in deep slumber as according to them about 60% school transport is outdated or condemned. As such they said school going children are at high risk and they urged authorities including the RTO- Kashmir to look into the matter and ensure safety of the students
