Party leaders urge Basharat, Imran to reconsider resignation

Srinagar, Day after two Peoples Democratic Party ministers resigned from the State Cabinet, three senior party leaders met the estranged duo to persuade them to withdraw their resignations, even as the newly-inducted Education Minister Altaf Bukhari on Saturday said it is a “small issue” within the (PDP) family and will be “resolved soon.”

Sources said both Syed Basharat Bukhari and Imran Ansari, who resigned on Friday soon after the reshuffle in the council of ministers, have flown to Srinagar from Jammu.

A group of senior PDP leaders including Vice-President Sartaj Madni, Muhammad Rafi Mir and Abdul Haq Khan went to meet both Imran and Bukhari and asked them to reconsider their resignation decision, the sources said.

The trio, according to the sources, had however gone to meet the aggrieved leaders on their own and had no direction from the Chief Minister to do so. The Chief Minister, the sources said, has chosen not to speak on the issue, giving an indication that she “won’t succumb to any pressure tactics.”

The trio first met Imran who was the Minister for Information Technology, Technical Education and Youth Services & Sports, at his residence here at around 10:30 am.
