Srinagar, May 4 (GNS): A rifle-snatching bid by an unidentified person was on Wednesday foiled by police in Batapora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Official sources told news agency GNS that a police party of Shopian police station was standing guard at Shopian-Batapora crossing. “In the meantime, one person appeared and attempted to snatch rifle from a cop who was standing away from his colleagues.

However he raised the alarm which attracted the attention of other policemen, prompting the snatcher to run away as the cops ran towards him,” the sources said, adding that the snatcher was accompanied by his two to three accomplices.

Following the incident, the police started massive manhunt to nab the snatcher and his accomplices in the area. However no one was reported to be arrested so far. In the past, several youths who wanted to join militant ranks have snatched rifles from police and other forces personnel as there is reportedly dearth of weapons in Kashmir Valley.(GNS)
