Srinagar, April 07: The killing of two top Hizbul Mujahideen militants Thursday morning in an encounter has sparked a spontaneous shutdown and street protests in twin districts of south Kashmir- Pulwama and Shopian.
Reports reaching Kashmir Glory said that the killings prompted widespread outrage while the protesters raising anti-India and pro-freedom slogans in the twin districts.
A forces’ vehicle has been set to ablaze by locals in Pulwama. The forces’ vehicle (Wanton) bearing registration number JK-13B 2429 stationed at Pulwama-Chowk was took over, driven and later on set on ablaze by a group of local youth. There has been no let up in the situation despite scores of tear-smoke shells fired by the forces, reports said.
Meanwhile, two bike-borne militants fired a volley of bullets apparently to bid a ‘gun salute’ to the slain fellow militants.
Two Hizbul Mujhaideen top commanders identified as Naseer Ahmad Pandit S/O Ghulam Rasool Pandit residence of Kareemabad Pulwama and Wasim Ahmad Malla alias Rizwan son of Mohammad Iqbal Pandit residence of Pahlipora Shopian got killed in a brief gunfight with government forces at Vihil village of Shopian district today morning.
The duo was part of Hizb commander Burhan Wani’s group.
Pertinently, Nasir Pandit, a former cop, had decamped with weapons from former Minister Altaf Bukhari’s residence in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district last year.
