The State Human Rights Commission has sought reports from deputy commissioners of Islamabad and Kulgam on separate petitions, seeking directions to find “real facts” into the killing of two civilians at Srigufwara and Chader areas in the respectively.

Muhammad Yousuf of Srigufwara was killed during a gunfight on June 22 and Yawar Ahmad Dar of Gusipora Wanpoh was shot dead on June 2, at Kulgam allegedly by the government forces. Besides killings, a number of civilians were injured in government forces action.

Hearing the petitions filed by International Forum for Justice Human Rights JK Chairman Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, chairperson of State Human Rights Commission Justice ((Rtd) Bilal Nazki issued a notice to SSPs and deputy commissioners of Islamabad and Kulgam and asked them to submit the detailed compliance reports before the commission by or before August 8.

Untoo said that the Commission has also sought an explanation on procedures adopted with regard to SOP during the search operations.

“The civilian killings and injuries are the outcome of irresponsible action by the government forces which is against the ethics and principles of human rights,” Untoo has submitted in the petition. (GNS)
