Srinagar, June 18 (GNS): A complete shutdown amid clashes was Saturday observed in parts of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district against the killings of two Hizbul Mujahideen militants in an encounter yesterday.
According to GNS correspondent, the shutdown was observed in Sopore, Pattan, Palhallan, Wussain, Goshbug and other adjacent villages. Two militants identified as Altaf Ahmad Mir of Gundbrath, Sopore and Imtiyaz Ahmad of Wusan, Bandipora. The killings of the militants sparked off massive protests and clashes in Bomai.
During the shutdown, all the shops and commercial establishments were closed in these areas to mourn the deaths of the militants. The public and private transport was also partially affected. Meanwhile, clashes between police and protesters erupted at Sopore after which forces lobbed teargas shells. However no one was reported to be injured. (GNS)
