Soldier manning LoC repairs at Machhil falls in gorge, dies

Srinagar, May 7: A Territorial Army soldier died Saturday after he slipped and rolled down into 250 ft deep gorge in Machhil sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Official sources told news agency GNS that the sepoy Kishori Lal Rathore (23) of 175 TA who was returning back to his unit after performing his duty at JP post near Jat Gali area along Line of Control (LoC) and suddenly he fell down into a gorge in the area. He was posted to keep a watch on men at work of upgrading the fence and repairing the damaged portions, they said.

“As the soldier falls in the gorge, his service rifle accidently went off and hit his right leg as a result of which he lost lot of blood”, they said.

Kishori Lal, a resident of village Dhar area of Drapshlla of Kishtwar district was shifted to army hospital Drugmulla in unconscious state. However, doctors present there declared him brought dead. (GNS)
