Students protest in Srinagar; SHO injured


Srinagar, Scores of students on Monday in Lal Chowk hit streets again and staged pro-freedom and anti-India protests during which they also clashed with police, resulting in injuries to a senior police officer.

According to GNS correspondent, dozens of students tried to take out a rally from SP College at MA Road in city centre. The protesting students tried to March towards Lal Chowk but police swung into action and pushed back students with teargas shelling.

The students retaliated by resorting to heavy stone pelting from many sides inside SP College premises. As the clashes ensued, police fired dozens of teargas shells. Some of the students also pelted stones on police from women’s college.

During heavy clashes inside SP College, a senior police officer identified as Suhail Ahmad, who is SHO Kralkhud, was injured after a stone hit him in his head. He was shifted to hospital where he received five stitches. His condition is stated to be stable. The clashes erupted despite closure of SP Higher Secondary School located adjacent to the college.
