Thousands attend funerals of two top Hizb militants amid ‘gun salute’ Youth set ablaze police vehicle after ‘hijack’

Pulwama, April 7 (GNS): Thousands of people today attended the funeral prayers and processions of two top Hizbul Mujahideen militants who were killed by forces today amid protests, clashes and ‘gun salute’ by latter’s associates in south Kashmir, witnesses said Thursday.
Eyewitnesses told Srinagar-based news agency GNS that thousands of people assembled at the native villages of both slain militants, Naseer Pandit and Waseem Malla in Kareemabad of Pulwama and Trenz in Shopian respectively. Amid pro-Islam, pro-militant and anti-India slogans, the mourners attended the funerals of the slain duo.
Witnesses said that the funerals of the both militants were conducted at least six times as there were people in huge numbers and many of them couldn’t participate premier funeral. They said women showered petals and flowers on the corpses of the slain duo and groomed them with ‘henna’.
The witnesses said that the militant associates of the Naseer Pandit appeared in his village and gave a “gun salute” to them in full public glare. “The militants arrived thrice and the first group comprising of two militants fired 21 rounds in air as a mark of respect to their slain associate.
The witnesses further said that a police vehicle was set ablaze by angry youths at Kareemabad after hijacking it from Police station Pulwama, three kilometers from the native village of Naseer Pandit. “When people sought body of the Naseer from police station Pulwama, the angry youths in the meantime pushed a cop who was in the vehicle and hijacked it by driving to Kareemabad where it was set ablaze,” they added.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in Pulwama and Shopian districts against the killing of militants. Only couple of days ago, a militant of ‘Burhan Group’ namely Bilal Ahmad of Kareemabad was killed in a gunfight at Gudoora and his funeral was held yesterday which also was attended by thousands of people.
