Srinagar, Governor NN Vohra on Thursday urged the government to restore Khanqah-e-Moula in Downtown Srinagar to its pristine glory.
A Raj Bhavan spokesman said that the Governor, who expressed sadness over the damage to holy shrine in a fire incident on Wednesday, urged the government and all other concerned authorities to see that no time is lost in restoring the shrine to its pristine glory.
“The Governor and First Lady had visited this historical shrine of Mir Syed Ali Hamadani (RA), the revered Sufi saint, on many occasions. Mrs Vohra has taken many pictures of this shrine and sent them to varied quarters. Two of the pictures taken by her were released today,” the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah visited Khanqah-e-Moula on Thursday to assess damage to the shrine due to the fire incident. Accompanied by NC’s general secretary and MLA Khanyar Ali Muhammad Sagar, Farooq paid obeisance at the shrine and sought the immediate restoration of its damaged sections.
“Khanqah-e-Moula is the spiritual core of Kashmir and a rich repository of our spiritual and cultural history. The incident of fire here was heart-wrenching and I commend the locals and the firefighters for playing an exemplary role to contain the fire and limit damage to the shrine,” he said. “We are all indebted to them and salute them.”
