Women Empowerment Centre reopens at Nagam

Srinagar, May 2: A local army unit at Budgam today constructed a hall and upgraded the existing WEC at Qasba Nagam. Since its inception in Jun 2014, the army has helped in providing a vital platform to empower the women of this region for a entrepreneurial venture, an official in a statement issued here said.

This institute started with 11 volunteer women and as of date has 25 women now attending the cutting & tailoring workshop, he said.

Keeping the increasing popularity of the WEC amongst the local women, it was decided to enhance the infrastructural set up.The coordinator of WEC Ms Ruksana Bano is conducting the training for these candidates.Till now WEC, Qasba Nagam has been successful in empowering more than 87 girls & women in last one year. These women have gained expertise in knitting, stitching of school uniforms & ladies garments, the official added.
